Queensland OpenIDEO Challenge
“How Might we better connect food production and consumption?”
Together Propeller and OpenIDEO are delivering a government program for the Ideas Festival 2011, which includes an online global design challenge, a facilitated ideation workshop, networking events and public talks.
The purpose of the program is to engage government, community groups and industry in the shared process of ‘open innovation’ and learning by doing. The program is designed to encourage participants to step outside their normal thinking process and to embrace the design thinking process – creating, refining and testing – to therefore be able to understand policy development and community engagement in new ways.
The Challenge asks the international community, Queenslanders, policy makers and anyone interested in the future of the food sector to generate great ideas that respond to the question – “How might we better connect food production and consumption?”

The online design process seeks concepts for projects and programs in response to the theme. The most inspiring and relevant ideas are brought to Queensland during the Ideas Festival to form the ‘fuel’ within a government focused ideation workshop.
The workshop is designed to trigger transformational thinking from teams of policy makers from the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, the Department of Environment and Resource Management and the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
OpenIDEO is an open innovation platform for social good that has a community of 13,000+ users from around the world.
