State of Design Festival 2009

After the success of the 2008 Festival we continued to work with Australian Exhibitions and Conferences to grow and consolidate the 2009 State of Design as the largest design event ever held in Australia.

Our Creative Director Ewan McEoin was reappointed as Creative Director of the State of Design for 2009 to lead the development of the program, brand strategy and curation of the festival. The 2009 theme he developed was ‘Sampling the Future’.

Working with Fleur Watson as Curator of the ‘Design for Everyone’ public program the Festival team doubled audience and sponsorship levels from 2008 – presenting over 110 events and exhibitions in Melbourne and regional locations across Victoria.

The program included a 2-day design business conference ‘Design capital’, a major trade event for small design brands ‘Design Made Trade’ and an extensive public program of events, exhibitions, workshops and talks.

The look and feel for 2009 was developed in collaboration by Qube Konstrukt and R.Co.

The State of Design is funded by the Victorian Government Department of Innovation Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD), and aims to demonstrate and communicate how design can create opportunities for sustainable innovation, generate new products and services and improve health and social conditions with economic benefit to Victoria.

After the huge success of the 2009 event we were again contracted to develop the program framework for 2010. This included the implementation of a refreshed look and feel designed by Studio Binocular.

The 2010 program was completed and led by a new Creative Director Lou Weis.

The State of Design Festival is managed and delivered by Australian Exhibitions and Conferences.
